WELCOME!! :D

First of all, welcome to my new skincare blog! It's taken me forever to get this up an running, so fingers crossed it won't be as difficult to maintain (*^_^*). Thanks so much for stopping by, and I really hope you'll find the content enjoyable, informative, and even entertaining!

Now, onto business.

This post is going to be a sponsored review of the pūr~lisse Blue Lotus line, sent to me free-of-charge in exchange for my honest opinions by Amabie.com, an Asian Beauty review site of which I am a member. It's totally free to create a profile, so go check them out and start reviewing your favorite products today! In case you're interested in some of my previous product reviews, my username on Amabie.com is gnatslikefruit.

I have extensively tested all products to the best of my ability; obviously the sheet mask was only used once, but I have been wearing both the Balancing Moisturizer and Eye Adore Serum almost exclusively for 30 days now. Both have been tested in cold and warm weather, as stand-alone products and in combination with sleeping packs, sunscreens, etc.

Introduction to pūr~lisse

Before I get into the individual product reviews, I think it appropriate to introduce you to the pūr~lisse brand. Created by Jennifer Yen, pūr~lisse, "a culmination of Asian wisdom and modern beauty philosophy," uses a proprietary Lotus Lupine 5 complex blend of blue lotus, white tea, lupine peptides, soy proteins, and seaweed to improve and protect the skin's radiance, youthfulness, and moisture level. Their products are free of parabens, petrochemicals, synthetic colors and fragrances, GMOs, sulfates, phthalates, and animal cruelty. You can find their entire skincare line at purlisse.com.

Primary Ingredients

I'll be listing the full set of ingredients for each product as I review, but before I start getting into my opinions on the efficacy of the Blue Lotus line, I want to shed a tiny bit of light on the primary, or key, ingredients on which pūr~lisse prides itself, as many of us might be unfamiliar with them.

Blue Lotus:

Nymphaea caerulea flower extract. Also known as the Egyptian lotus or Egyptian lily, the flower has been shown by some studies to contain antioxidant constituents.

White Tea:

Camellia Sinensis leaf extract. Camellia Sinensis is a type of shrub whose leaves are used to produce various types of teas, including oolong, white, and green teas, depending on the processing method used. White tea is produced when the leaves of the shrub are minimally processed. Aside from the well-known health benefits of drinking tea, some studies have shown that tea extracts used in skincare help protect the skin from the sun's damaging UV light.

Lupine Peptides:

Lupine peptides are peptides (short chains of amino acids) derived from the lupine plant that have been shown to inhibit the activation of Metalloproteinase enzymes (Matrix Metalloproteinase or MMPs) which break down collagen and elastin in the skin following exposure to UV rays.

Soy Proteins:

Hydrolyzed soy proteins are small chains of amino acids derived from the the soybean (Glycine soja) plant. Soy extract has been shown useful for restoring, nourishing, and moisturizing the skin.

Seaweed:

Alaria Esculenta Extract. Seaweed, rich in nutrients, is known for its emollient and nourishing properties, and has been studied as a combatant against aging and sun damage.

So basically: ANTI-AGING FTW 😎👊🏻

You: Okay, this sounds all fine and dandy, but how well do these products really work? 🤔

Moi: LIKE A BOSS.

Allow me to elaborate~

My Skin Type: Chronically Dehydrated, Hyper-pigmented

pūr~lisse Blue Lotus Balancing Moisturizer

The pūr~lisse Blue Lotus Balancing Moisturizer comes in a pretty 50ml squeeze tube with a screw-off cap. Now, I know it might not be the most glamorous packaging ever *cough* HistoryofWhoo *cough*, but it's quite economical and really convenient, not only for traveling, but for daily life, especially if your cat is as bonkers as mine and decides at random hours of the day to run and jump around like a desperate attention-starved child. My Naruko frosted glass bottle? HIDE IT. My pūr~lisse moisturizer? We're chiiiilll 👍🏻

The first thing you'll notice when you squeeze some of the moisturizer out onto your hand is the scent. It's simply lovely. The best way I can describe it is cool mint combined with soft florals; as someone who loathes strong scents, I find it's not overpowering at all and actually rather refreshing. It only lingers for a bit, and then dissipates, so don't worry if you plan on wearing another perfume that day.

Naturally, the second thing you'll notice is the moisturizer's texture. I would describe it as a milky white lotion, as opposed to a cream, because it's so light and easily spreadable. It absorbs very quickly, and leaves the skin with a super soft, satin finish; no sticky residue or film here! pūr~lisse wasn't pulling a fast one when they claimed that this moisturizer is "perfect for under makeup." As stated previously, I've worn the Blue Lotus Balancing Moisturizer as my daily moisturizer, almost exclusively, for 30 days. I've paired it with sunscreen, various sleeping packs, and even other moisturizers/emulsions, and never once has it pilled or caused any sort of grease/oil buildup. If you're into layering products like me, this moisturizer is ideal.

Right, okay, this is all fine and swell. It smells nice, it has a nice texture, BUT HOW WELL DOES IT WORK?! Well, my fine friends, let me sum it up for you this way: AMABIE, PLEASE SEND ME MORE 😭. Not only does the Blue Lotus Balancing Moisturizer provide superior hydration upon application, but I legitimately feel consistent use has improved the overall moisture level and texture of my skin. Now, I don't have any fancy skin analyzers to prove it to you, so you'll just have to take my word for it, but I really do believe my skin's ability to retain moisture has drastically improved over the time I've used this moisturizer. Before being spoiled by pūr~lisse, if I failed to apply moisturizer even once in the morning or before bed, 8 hours later my skin felt like sand. With the Blue Lotus Balancing Moisturizer, this isn't the case; several times during the past few weeks things have gotten so stressful at home that I've simply forgotten to do my morning skincare routine. Nothing. Nada. I wake up, and go. I know, it's horrible 😱. But the crazy thing is, by the time I'm ready for bed, MY SKIN IS STILL HYDRATED, SOFT, AND SMOOTH. And this has been an on-going trend for the entirety of the time I've used this moisturizer. There are no words to explain how impressed I am.

All I can say is, GO TRY THIS PRODUCT. It retails for $55 on purlisse.com, but I think it's money well spent! It's pretty much reached HG status in my book 💖

pūr~lisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum

The pūr~lisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum is meant to hydrate, firm, brighten, and alleviate puffiness of the skin around your eyes. Aside from the primary ingredients listed above, this eye serum also contains Haloxyl, a synthetic blend of Glycerin, Steareth-20, Hydroxysuccinimide, Chrysin, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 designed to decrease dark circles and discoloration under the eye. Haloxyl can be used on its own or in conjunction with other ingredients, as it is in this eye serum.

The Eye Adore Serum comes in a 15ml convenient plastic airtight pump bottle that is not only hygienic, but perfect for rationing out the product - one pump for two eyes works great for me, and it's lasted quite a while! Unlike the Blue Lotus Balancing Moisturizer, I find this serum to be completely odorless, and since artificial fragrance is not listed as an ingredient, this makes sense to me; because the under-eye area is so sensitive, it's probably best to avoid as many potential irritants as possible.

Texture-wise, the Eye Adore Serum is a bit richer/creamier than the thin, lotion-esque Balancing Moisturizer, but it is neither sticky nor tacky, and dries down into the skin leaving an intensely hydrated, satin-smooth finish - perfect for use under eye makeup! True to the product's claims, upon application the delicate skin under my eye feels almost instantly firmer, as if I had just put down some sort of protective coating over the area. As described previously, I've used the Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum exclusively for 30 days, and just like with the Balancing Moisturizer, I've paired it with sunscreen, various sleeping packs, and emulsions, hydrogel eye patches, and BB creams, and never once has it pilled or caused any sort of grease/oil buildup. Use of this serum did not result in any breakouts, irritation, or milia formation, though as we all know YMMV when it comes to skincare.

As for results? I'm pleased to declare that the skin under and around my eyes has never been brighter or as plump as it is now. I have fairly recessed eye sockets, so my genetics + fatigue based dark circles are emphasized by the curvature of my bone structure, and I feel my eyes always look dull and sunken. With consistent and continuous use of the Blue Lotus Eye Adore Serum, however, I personally see a marked improvement in skin moisture and firmness - for the first time in, well, ever, the skin under my eyes actually has a bouncy quality to it when I touch the area with my fingertip 😮. To me, that's seriously impressive! Unfortunately, it seems my brain took a vacation the day I started testing this product, so I have no before/after comparison photos to prove my claim, but I do sincerely believe this eye serum worked as promised.

If you're interested, the Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum retails for $65 on purlisse.com, and I would absolutely repurchase it! 💖

pūr~lisse Blue Lotus + White Tea Treatment Sheet Mask

Dun dun dun duuun! Sheet mask time!

Now, while I usually use a sheet mask as part of my full nighttime routine, for the purpose of an unbiased and proper review, I followed the masking instructions provided on the package: I cleansed my skin, applied a hydrating toner, and wore the mask for the recommended 20 minutes.

The mask material itself was a bit thicker than I expected, but was soft and the fit was quite decent - the mask covered all of the important facial areas without needing too much pulling or prodding, and stayed in place even when I moved around. The mask was well-drenched in a thin essence; it was neither too watery nor too thick, if that makes sense. Even though the essence was not runny or drippy, because it did have a bit of slipperiness to it, I was able to massage some from the mask down to my neck. The mask was quite hydrating and soothing to wear; no irritation or uncomfortable tingling sensation was noticed by yours truly, though I did pick up a light floral fragrance, so if you're sensitive to scents just take note.

"Aaaaand?" you ask. Well, once again I'm pleased to say that I really enjoyed this mask. After the recommended 20 minutes, I removed the mask (though it was still a bit wet so you could probably go for a bit longer), and massaged the essence into my skin. This is the interesting part - as I've said, the essence wasn't creamy or oily, but when it dried down into my skin (within minutes of mask removal) I genuinely felt as though I had just applied a layer of rich moisturizer! I'm not talking about any residue or film that the mask left on my skin, but how my skin actually felt itself! If I hadn't known I just used the sheet mask, I would have thought I had just woken up after using a great sleeping pack. My skin was firm, plump, moisturized, and smooth. For someone with very dehydrated skin like mine, results like that after just 20 minutes of masking are seriously impressive 😃. However, because I did use this mask on its own and at night, I cannot attest to how well the essence wears under makeup or sunscreen.

Below I've posted a before/after comparison collage, though for the poor quality I sincerely apologize; I usually mask at night and the yellow artificial lighting in my room paired with my fuzzy phone camera doesn't make for the highest quality images. Forgive me? I'll do better next time! I'm also quite pale naturally, so I didn't really notice any brightening effect, but the moisture was awesome! Unfortunately, this might not come across in the photo very well 😰

Would I recommend or repurchase this mask? Absolutely! I loved how it gave my skin a "full routine" feel in just 20 minutes. However, it is a bit on the pricier side at $8.00 for one mask ($36 for a pack of 6). Because of that, I'd put this in the "special occasion/treat yourself" category 👌🏻

Note: So that you could see the texture of my skin and the sheet mask, these photos were sharpened, but that's the only alteration I made. Like I wrote above, my phone's camera isn't the best (>.<)". I'll be sure to use my Fuji next time (though I still have to figure out if there's a selfie mode 🤔). Also: WOW MY FACE IS HUGE 😱

One word: Niiiiiiiiiiiiice 😎

I want to say that I am deeply grateful to Amabie.com and pūr~lisse for allowing me to try these amazing products; all three were incredibly impressive and I would highly recommend checking them out!
